#StocksGoOnChain: The NYSE Is Building a 24/7 Blockchain Trading Venue. Wall Street Just Decided This Is Happening. For two centuries, the stock market closed at 4pm. That era is ending. In January, the NYSE announced it is developing a platform for trading and on-chain settlement of tokenized securities — 24/7 operations, instant settlement, fractional shares, stablecoin-based funding. Not a pilot. A full venue, pending regulatory approval, built on the same Pillar matching engine the NYSE already runs. The DTC — the core plumbing of US capital markets — received authorization to create blockchain-based "digital twins" of US equities, ETFs, and Treasuries on approved distributed ledger networks. Nasdaq already received SEC approval for a rule change enabling tokenized securities to trade alongside traditional ones. The market that exists today tells you where this is heading. Tokenized equities crossed $963 million in on-chain value in early 2026 — up 2,878% year-over-year. Monthly transfer volume hit $2.66 billion. xStocks, Kraken's tokenized equity platform, crossed $25 billion in total transaction volume across eight months with 80,000 unique holders. Superstate's Opening Bell platform — which lets companies issue shares directly on Solana and Ethereum — surpassed $1 billion in assets under management. The difference between what exists now and what's coming is important. Most current tokenized stocks are synthetic wrappers — price exposure without ownership rights. The new wave is issuer-led, SEC-registered, on-chain shares where token holders are recorded as actual shareholders with voting rights, dividends, and corporate action access. That's not a crypto product mimicking a stock. That's a stock on different rails. Larry Fink said every stock, every bond, every fund will eventually sit on a single ledger. McKinsey put the tokenized asset market at $2 trillion by 2030. The NYSE is now building toward that number in earnest. The market doesn't close at 4pm anymore.
